Period pain sucks. For me, the pain is often more than just a little bit uncomfortable – it can be downright intolerable. Thankfully, there’s a new device on the market that promises to help ease menstrual pain: Livia.
The Livia is a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machine designed to help relieve period pain. So, does it work? Is it worth the high price tag? Keep reading for my review of period pain TENS machine, specifically Livia!
I’ll dig into the details of the Livia device below, including:

Livia Review
I have battled with menstrual pain since my early teens. I lost count of how many pain relievers I’ve taken over the years. Also, I can’t count how many times I’ve applied hot water packs over my stomach for pain relief.
For my recent menstrual cramps, instead of reaching for my pain relievers and hot water bottles, I have been trying something new. I took a shower and donned my comfortable dress, then I unpacked the Livia from its box.
Livia is a portable device and comes in different colors – mine is pink. It can be worn under your clothes and won’t require batteries as it stays charged for 14-15 hours.
The first time I used Livia, I clipped it to my jogging pants and stuck the two gel stickers to my lower abdomen. As I switched it on, it emits impulses that felt like tiny electrical shocks or vibrations. It offers three levels of strengths, which can easily be adjusted based on my period pain (I used the first level initially, then adjusted to the second or third level – whichever relieves my pain).
I was surprised at how my period pain went away a few seconds after turning it on. This was my first menstrual period where I haven’t taken any pain medication to feel comfortable.
Other benefits of Livia include:
- Livia allows you to perform your routine activities without hassle.
- You can customize your treatment level.
- Livia is the closest thing to natural remedies for period discomforts.
Moreover, as opposed to other TENS units for menstrual pain like Zoetech, Livia is FDA approved, CE marked, and Health Canada certified.
The only concern I had was it isn’t discreet even if it is a small TENS device. You need to wear a baggy top to hide it and the wires are quite challenging to keep under your wraps. And when you use the toilet, be careful not to drop everything into the bowl. Also, when you wear a dress, there is no place to clip it. Livia is a bit bulky to attach to your knickers and I don’t want to pull my pants all the way to my ankles.
Livia Features
As a woman, here are some features of Livia that you’ll definitely appreciate.
SmartWave™ Pain Blocking technology
Most TENS units like Ovira and Monthli employ the TENS technology to provide instant period pain relief to most women. Though Livia is also a TENS unit, it doesn’t use the same technology.
Instead, Livia uses SmartWave, a patent-approved technology that emits gentle micro-pulses that will keep the central nervous system occupied so it won’t receive and process menstrual pain signals. These micro-pulses also activate the natural pain response of the body by releasing endorphins to further defeat pain. This new period pain machine is the only device that uses such innovative technology.
Safe and Scientifically Proven
Livia is clinically proven to minimize, if not stop, menstrual pain. Every day, it receives unsolicited and positive reviews from women who share how it has changed their lives by helping with mild-to-severe cramps as well as endometriosis symptoms!
Since Livia’s inception in 2016, this TENS device has been subjected to extensive clinical trials under the supervision of Professor Bari Kaplan, a renowned women’s health expert.
The most recent randomized controlled trial conducted by TechnoSTAT used cutting-edge data management and biostatistics techniques to yield clear documentation on how effective this pain machine really is at relieving menstrual pain quickly without any negative side effects! 86% of study participants reported that Livia provided effective relief from menstrual pain, with significant statistical improvements in efficacy and speed. 72.5% observed it to be significantly faster than other drugs or remedies they had tried before; no side effects were reported either!
Though several studies have also been conducted to test the effectiveness of other TENS units, they are not as extensive as the clinical trials performed by the Livia team.
With its unique pain-blocking technology and proof of relieving menstrual pain, Livia is sure to benefit women like me or those suffering from PMS and other menstrual discomforts.
